Lonely Mountain

The journey to the Lonely Mountain with a certain wizard. 😉  The quest of Erebor (in Sindarin) occurred toward the end of the third age, shortly before the War of the Ring (nearly 78 years apart). Recounted from the perspective of Bilbo Baggins in J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit”.

For this piece, we are peering through the eyes of the observer who is standing behind Gandalf and a couple of the dwarves as they near the Lonely Mountain. Though Gandalf did not actually enter the mountain with the dwarves, he was with them for a significant amount of the journey. Thus this piece depicts his silhouette as a tribute to his participation of a quest in which he was “barely involved”.  🙂  The Matterhorn was used as reference for the mountain itself.
